Windows Defender

When Microsoft released Windows Defender was we were all eager to install it on our Windows XP. But now as you probably know, it comes by default with Windows Vista. And guess what, people are looking for a way to uninstall it! It’s kinda funny, but it’s most likely due to the fact that people always want to try the “other” software. So if they got Windows Defender and a new version of Kaspersky is relaeased, they start running after Kaspersky! (We do that as well by the way).

So, in today’s post we’re going to teach how to uninstall Windows Defender since it’s a bit tricky.

  1. Click on Start –> Run, type “services.msc” and hit enter
  2. Look for the Windows Defender service, right click on it and choose properties.
  3. Click on the “Stop” button to stop the service, and change the startup type to “Disabled”.
  4. Now close the Services windows, and Click on Start –> Run, type “msconfig’ and hit enter.
  5. Go to the startup tab, look for the Windows Defender item and uncheck it.

Now that you are from the steps above, open Windows Defender:

  1. Click on Tools –> Options
  2. Scroll down to the bottom and uncheck “Use Windows Defender”.

And that’s it, you’re done! Keep in mind that you should not keep your computer with an anti-spyware, so do not go for uninstalling Windows Defender unless you have a good alternative.
