Cannot open outlook 2010 ost file is in use

For some reason recently I started to get the below error while loading my outlook profile. Even though nothing was changed with my laptop configuration.

After digging the problem I have noticed that this behavior is not the same every time I open my outlook profile but It was whenever I am trying to open outlook after having the "Lync client (RC)" running, so what I had to do is that exit the Lync client and end its process if it was running then open outlook 2010. this worked for me.

I have also noticed precisely that this issue is occurring if you close outlook client before system hibernation.

Technically Lync client uses Outlook to sync contacts and as part as of the Office-Lync Integration , so apparently the Lync client is locking the OST file while it is running.

I got this same error with Outlook 2007 and Lync (RTM). I killed the OST and let Outlook rebuild it. Issue went away.

it may seems that your ost file is being corrupt. so you can rename it and upon restarting Outlook recreates it. If you want o recover the same ost file you have to convert ost to pst. to do so you need to use third party tools.

I have had no end of .ost corruption caused by the lync client running.  It’s really prety bad.

There are many reasons when you cannot open outlook.ost  file, such as Exchange Server crash, Exchange downtime and break down of the connection between Exchange Server and Outlook email client etc.. We can easily remove such errors by using SysTools OST Recovery  to repair the OST file process and solves the error  by converting unusable OST to usable PST..
