Work does stand in the way of blogging sometimes, but believe it or not… we’re back! We don’t promise to be updating the blog on a daily basis, but we’ll do our best to update it several times a week.

Today we will be sharing with you how to add subtitles to movies you download from the internet. Most of the movies we download don’t usually have any subtitles, and the reason is that you can simply choose any subtitles language you want and add it to your movie in few easy steps. Here’s how to do it.

Search a subtitle search engine for the subtitle language you want (we recommend SubScene)

Make sure to unzip the file you downloaded, you should get a file of the extension .srt

Copy that .srt file to where your downloaded move is located and rename it exactly ad your movie file but keep the .srt extension.
Suppose you downloaded the movie file “Meet the spartans.avi”, then you should rename your .srt file to “Meet the spartans.srt”

Play the movie file in your favorite media player, and it will automatically include the subtitles. We tries Windows Media Player, VLC Player, and Winamp. They all did it.

If there’s one thing everyone seem to be eager to do, it would be saving the resources of their computers. Especially that people nowadays tend to run endless applications together although their resources, i.e. RAM and CPU power, are limitd at the end of the day.

One way of saving RAM and CPU power is stopping unnecessary services. Remember the indexing process you learned about in yesterday’s post? Well that was in Vista, but a similar process exists in Windows XP to also allow faster search results, but it is useless to us since we actually use Good Desktop instead, so that indexing feature just wastes valuable resources to us! Here is how to disable it.

Click on Start –> Run, type “services.msc” and hit enter.

From the list of services, right click on “Indexing Service” and choose Properties.

Stop the service and set the starting type to “Disabled”.

And you’re done! The indexing service will then be disabled from running again and you will gain some additional memory and processing on your computer!

The searching engine in Windows Vista is a good improvement over its predecessor in Windows XP, did you know that it can also search into Microsoft Outlook 2007?

Anyway, we have lately encountered some problems with out search engine on Windows Vista while trying to search for some items, sometimes we were receiving errors, and sometimes we were unable to find the targeted items although we knew they were there on the computer, and we were able to reach them manually.

The best thing to do in this case is to rebuild the search index, this will clear the already existing index and will build a fresh new one. It could be a lengthy process but it IS worth it. Here’s how you can rebuild your search index in Windows Vista.

Launch the “Indexing Options” by clicking on Start and typing “indexing”.

When the dialog box open, click on “Advanced”.

A new windows will be opened, there you will find a button titled “Rebuild”, click on it.

Since the process might take time as we already mentioned, you might want to consider doing it overnight.

When Microsoft released Windows Defender was we were all eager to install it on our Windows XP. But now as you probably know, it comes by default with Windows Vista. And guess what, people are looking for a way to uninstall it! It’s kinda funny, but it’s most likely due to the fact that people always want to try the “other” software. So if they got Windows Defender and a new version of Kaspersky is relaeased, they start running after Kaspersky! (We do that as well by the way).

So, in today’s post we’re going to teach how to uninstall Windows Defender since it’s a bit tricky.

Click on Start –> Run, type “services.msc” and hit enter

Look for the Windows Defender service, right click on it and choose properties.

Click on the “Stop” button to stop the service, and change the startup type to “Disabled”.

Now close the Services windows, and Click on Start –> Run, type “msconfig’ and hit enter.

Go to the startup tab, look for the Windows Defender item and uncheck it.

Now that you are from the steps above, open Windows Defender:

Click on Tools –> Options

Scroll down to the bottom and uncheck “Use Windows Defender”.

And that’s it, you’re done! Keep in mind that you should not keep your computer with an anti-spyware, so do not go for uninstalling Windows Defender unless you have a good alternative.

Do you that you can make your screen fonts more readable if you are using Windows XP? Well, there’s actually a possibility to sharpen the fonts on your display by smoothing their edges so they become more clear to the eye. Check the picture below showing the difference between a normal font and an enhanced one.

Want to know how you also can enhance your display fonts?

It’s quite easy, all you have to do is to download the ClearType power toy from Microsoft and install it.

Once you’re done, go to your Control Panel, there you will find a newly added icon “ClearType Tuning”. Open it and go through the wizard which is very straight forward and choose the font enhancement that suits you the best.
